Are you a parent of a child in Loudoun County Public Schools? Or are you considering moving to Loudoun County because of the economic growth opportunities?
If so, then you need to learn a bit more about the proposed budget for Loudoun County Public Schools...
Why the big jump? Well, Loudoun County Public Schools came out with their initiatives and justification for the growth which might make some homeowners happy and others a bit frustrated...
Priorities include to justify the increase in budget:
- Full Day Kindergarten - this is an issue that has been a hot topic of discussion for my wife and I along with our neighbors. Why is this county one of the few that does not have full day kindergarten...especially with all of the economic prosperity in the county. Unfortunately, this initiative will not be for all students as the priority with be for low income families, special education students, and English language learners in schools
- English Language Learning Intake Center
- Online Courses for Loudoun High School students
- Funds for increase compensation and benefits for the staff
An additional justification for the increase in budget is the 3.4% increase in student population which will grow to nearly 76,000 students.
For a public school system with nearly a billion dollar budget, it is a shame that they cannot find the funds to open up the full day kindergarten for all students. I bet every parent could find the 'fat' in the budget that could pay for these programs easily so their children could attend full day.
